Country Nr 17 – Burkina Faso – a walk in the Parc Bangr-Weoogo

Country 17/196: Burkina Faso Destination: Ouagadougou During our short stay, we visited some of the most popular attractions in Ouagadougou, including the awesome Parc Bangr-Weoogo, which is no ordinary city park. It's at least 50 times the size of an average park, besides, it's home to many wild animals, including hyenas!! :) The sights were romantic, but knowing that we might bump into a hyena made the stroll sort of adventurous as well. ;) Things to see and things to do Ouagadougou is the capital and the largest city of Burkina Faso. It's a lively city known for its vast...

Country Nr 16 – Benin – exploring Cotonou on motorbikes

Country 16/196: Benin Destination: Cotonou We were staying at the lovely Villa les Orchidées hotel, which is located at the beautiful Obama beach. It gave us the chance to watch the sunset at the beach, which is always a very romantic experience. But romance is not the only thing you can find in Cotonou, the city also offers a fair share of excitement. For starters, there are taxi drivers on motorbikes, which can take two persons at a time, so we drove around the city with one of those most of the time (because it's cheaper than regular cabs and...

Country Nr 15 – Togo – sandy beaches and colorful markets

Country 15/196: Togo Destination: Lomé We took a bus from Accra to Lomé and then from Lomé to Cotonou, so we got to see the whole coast of Togo, including the lovely lake Togo. We loved the country's laid-back vibe, the never-ending sandy beach, the welcoming people, and the colorful markets. By the way, we didn't realize that we felt homesick until we found a French supermarché where they sell delicious Mediterranean food! Baguettes, cheese, olives, and French pastries. We've come to realize that even though we love trying new food, by heart, we are true Europeans. But hey, apparently...

Country Nr 14 – Ghana – the colorful beaches of the modern city of Accra

Country 14/196: Ghana Destination: Accra Ghana may not be the typical honeymoon destination, but we loved our stay. The country is mainly known for its warm climate, sandy beaches, and beautiful nature. We were staying in Accra, which is a modern city full of beautiful sights. We were lucky enough to visit the city during Ghana's Founder's Day, a major national holiday, therefore the streets were even fuller, the people even more cheerful, and the celebrations even more numerous. After our stay in the capital, we took a bus to Lomé, which gave us the opportunity to also see the...

Country Nr 13 – São Tomé and Príncipe – top attractions of the lovely São Tomé

Country 13/196: São Tomé and Príncipe Destinations: São Tomé, Santana village, Pico Cão Grande, Lagoa Azul, and many others along the way. One word: PARADISE :) ♥ The country consists of two main islands - one is São Tomé and the other one is Príncipe. If you have enough time, you should definitely try to visit both of them, since both offer countless beautiful sights. We only had a couple of days, so we decided to explore São Tomé. We tend to like tropical islands - a lot, but we never imagined that we would love this one so much! The...

Country Nr 12 – Liberia – visiting the diverse city of Monrovia

Country 12/196: Liberia Destination: Monrovia Even though there is a number of great national parks and beaches to be found in Liberia, we have decided to feel the lively vibe of the country's largest city. Monrovia is the capital of Liberia and it's a beautiful, diverse, and modern city. We loved the vibrant streets and markets of this bustling city and we truly admired the ruins of the Ducor Hotel - the first hotel in Liberia and the spectacular view of the city, the Atlantic ocean, and the Saint Paul River it offers. The once luxurious hotel has been destroyed...

Country Nr 11 – Sierra Leone – Freetown, the lively city between the mountains and the sea

Country 11/196: Sierra Leone Destination: Freetown Sierra Leone, especially its capital city, seems to be a lovely honeymoon destination! ;) Beautiful beaches, tropical nature, great food, and an unbelievably picturesque city. The people are very friendly and welcoming, the streets are lively and colorful, and the landscape is incredibly diverse. We really loved it. :) But most of all we love and respect the fact that this country, which was troubled by war and disease for a very long time, has finally found peace. Things to see and things to do Some of the top attractions inside of the city...

Countries Nr 9 & 10 – Guinea & Guinea-Bissau – a roadtrip through Guinea-Bissau and a rainy stay in Conakry

Country 9/196 was Guinea-Bissau, but due to our health issues, we only spent a night there. It was an awesome road-trip night, but sadly, we don't have any photos to show. Hopefully, we'll find the time to visit Guinea-Bissau again. Country 10/196: Guinea Destination: Conakry Since it was the middle of the rainy season in Guinea, it was raining during our entire stay, which made it difficult to explore Conakry, but we did our best. Our initial plan was to visit Îles de Los - the well-known island group close to the capital, but due to the heavy rain, it...

Country Nr 8 – Gambia – dealing with malaria in Banjul

Country 8/196: Gambia Destination: Banjul We came to the Gambia on the 10th of September, but due to a long flight delay (which is as we came to realize a common problem in Africa), we arrived late in the afternoon. First, we took a tour of the colorful city, then we took some time to check out the lovely resort we were staying at, and afterward, we went to the beach. We loved it! In the evening, Matic developed a fever. At first, we thought it was because of a sore throat he was having. I gave him some home...
