Hi there, fellow honeymooners! 😉

As you already know, we grew up in a small, idyllic country in the heart of Europe – a country which blends perfectly in the spirit of the culturally rich and diverse Old continent. Therefore, to us, the entire continent feels like home. Over the years we’ve traveled to many different European cities and places and we’ve fallen even more in love with its unique charms. We love its history, its traditions, its old architecture and telling monuments. We love European art and romance. We love the food, the music, the people, the culture, the beautiful nature and colorful towns and cities. To us, Europe is magical and it definitely offers some of the best honeymoon destinations.

You might also enjoy visiting some of Europe’s top historical sites, like the Stonehenge in England, the ruins of Pompeii, the Colosseum and Forum in Rome or the Parthenon in Athens. Or you can simply walk the old narrow streets and admire the fascinating architecture. And when you get tired of sightseeing you can go to a restaurant and enjoy the freakishly tasty local cuisine (especially if you’re in Italy, France, Spain, Greece or Switzerland, which are some of the best culinary destinations in the world).

Paris, the city of love

Let’s take a look at some of the most popular destinations in Europe…

Italy

Italy has everything – rich history, tasty food (pizza, pasta, lasagna, wine, mmm) beautiful beaches, majestic mountains, and lovely medieval cities. Some say it’s the ultimate honeymoon destination and we could easily agree. Since the word ‘romance’ originates from the Latin term ‘Romanicus’, meaning ‘of the Roman style’, it’s no wonder that anything Italian is considered romantic.

Popular romantic destinations include the magical Tuscany – the land, which inspired so many artists, its historic capital – Florence, the peaceful Lake ComoPuglia, the fashion capital – Milano, Pisa, Rimini, Bologna, Genova, Naples, the colorful Amalfi coast, Verona – the home of Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet, the islands of Sardinia, Capri and Sicily, Italy’s beautiful capital – Rome, where you can see many ruins of the Roman Empire and thus understand its greatness, and of course the romantic city of Venice.

Spain

Ah, Spain! We love Spain. We love everything about it – the food (the wine, their famous ‘jamón’, Paella, tapas, olives…), the warm climate, the charming culture, the imposing architecture and art, the lively people, the melodious language and the passionate music (oh, the sound of the Spanish guitar) – and we’re not the only ones. Naturally, Spain is often considered to be one of the most romantic destinations in the world.

There are countless beautiful destinations in Spain… There is Barcelona with all of Gaudi’s surreal architectural creations, Seville – the passionate jewel of Andalusia and the home of flamenco, the amazing Granada, the medieval Toledo, the seductive Segovia, the coastal city of Valencia, Bilbao, Cordoba, Salamanca, Pamplona, many lovely islands, like Mallorca, Menorca, Ibiza, Tenerife, Gran Canaria or Lanzarote and Spain’s wonderful capital – Madrid.

United Kingdom

Only few other countries in the world offer as much history and tradition as the United Kingdom. And as the main historic monuments still stand, visiting the UK is like time traveling. Since the UK is actually a union of four countries (England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland) it also offers vast cultural variety.

The UK has many charms – from the ancient ruins of Stonehenge, to the picturesque terrains of Yorkshire and Cornwall, amazing national parks, like Lake district and Snowdonia, Scotland’s scenic Highlands, historic coastal towns in Wales, Ireland‘s beautiful castles and the UK’s most famous cities, like Liverpool, Birmingham, Oxford, Cambridge, Chester, Edinburgh, York, Bath, Windsor, Canterbury, Gloucester, and London – home of the royal family.

Austria

Like the UK, Austria can also be proud of its rich history. This central European country is known for its cultural heritage, several composers, who played major parts in the history of music, waltz, coffee, beautiful architecture, amazing museums, musical venues and the Alps.

Austria is probably the best destination for skiing enthusiasts. There are numerous idyllic ski resorts (e.g. Lech, St. Anton, Eben am Achensee, Hintertux Glacier, Zell am See, Flachau, Saalbach-Hinterglemm, Schladming, Kitzbühel, Heiligenblut etc.), famous for their quality slopes and panoramic views. History lovers, on the other hand, should consider visiting some of Austria’s wonderful cities. The most popular city destinations include Innsbruck, Salzburg, Graz, Hallstatt, Klagenfurt and the capital – Vienna.

Russia

Each and every destination on this list is very special and unique, but they are all very ‘European’. Russia is a bit different. Russian culture is a blend of Slavic, Byzantine and other European cultures and it was also strongly influenced by Finno-Ugric and Scandinavian tribes and the 20th-century Communist ideology. Therefore, Russia truly is a world of its own. The largest country in the world is famous for its rich history, ballet, exceptional architecture and great artists, especially writers and poets.

Here are some of the most popular destinations in Russia: Saint Petersburg – the most ‘European’ city in Russia, that attracts visitors with its remarkable architectural achievements, Vladivostok, Sochi, Kazan, Novosibirsk, Novgorod, Kaliningrad, Yekaterinburg, Omsk, the Golden ring, the Trans-Siberian railway, lake Baikal, which is the largest freshwater lake in the world (by volume), Altai mountainsKamchatka peninsula and the glorious capital – Moscow.

France

Everything about France is romantic – French people’s love-oriented nature, their sexy language, gourmet food, wonderful landscapes, fairytale castles, enchanting cities and a large variety of wine, champagne, cheese and delicious chocolate. It is not by chance, that France is often considered the best honeymoon destination.

If you’re going to France, make sure to visit Cote d’Azur, known also as the French Riviera (Nice, Saint-Tropez, and Cannes, maybe even Monte Carlo, Monaco, while you’re in the area). This undeniable piece of paradise will charm you with its deep blue waters, elegant architecture and the unique Mediterranean spirit. Other popular destinations include Provance and its legendary lavender fields, Loire valley with its countless castles, the Alps – for an adventurous getaway, Bordeaux, Champagne or Burgundy – for wine lovers, lovely cities, like Lyon, Strasbourg, and Marseille, and last but certainly not least, Paris – the city of love.

Having trouble deciding on a destination? Luckily, Europe’s small size makes it possible to visit more than one country in a relatively short period of time. Besides, a full-scale Euro trip is without a doubt an awesome honeymoon idea. 😉
