Brazzaville is a beautiful, modern, peaceful, and rather clean city with ambitions to become an ecotourism destination. The city may be the perfect combination of the urban, the rural, and the African. We will forever remember Brazzaville as a city of beautiful sights and exceptionally friendly people. ♥
Things to see and things to do
Brazzaville is the capital and the largest city in the Republic of the Congo. It is located on the north side of the Congo river and it’s known for its many notable attractions, including the Basilique Sainte Anne, the Nabemba tower, the Pierre Savorgnan de Brazza Memorial, Cathedrale Sacre-Coeur, and Casa de Gaulle.
River Congo
Taking a walk on the banks of the river Congo was the most beautiful part of our stay in Brazzaville. Flowers, farm fields, farmers and fishermen, the river, and a beautiful view overlooking Kinshasa – the capital of the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
Pierre Savorgnan de Brazza Memorial
It’s a memorial housing the remains of Pierre Savorgnan de Brazza, a French-Italian explorer, who founded Congo’s capital. The white marble building is beautiful in itself, but the wonderful garden makes it an even more notable attraction.
Basilique Sainte Anne du Congo de Brazzaville
This wonderful building, known for its bright green roof is definitely one of the main attractions in the city – a must-do for sure! 🙂

Budget
Accommodation prices range from 12 USD (10 EUR) to 115 USD (98 EUR) a night, depending on how luxurious you want your room to be. Transportation prices are cheap, and there are lots of local restaurants known as ‘malewa’ throughout the city, where you can get cheap and tasty local meals.
Best time to visit
The climate in Congo is mostly equatorial, but there are some variations between the northern and the southern regions. If you are planning to visit Brazzaville, it’s best to do so during the dry season – between May and September. The northern regions may be better to visit sometime between January and February.
Environmental issues
Deforestation due to overexploitation and the expansion of agricultural lands is one of the biggest problems in the country. Deforestation is causing biodiversity loss, which is another major issue. In urban areas, air pollution from vehicle emissions is a pressing issue. Water is polluted by untreated sewage water. Tap water is not potable. In fact, in rural areas, only 51% of people have access to safe drinking water.
